River Street

River Street was once the hub of the world’s cotton industry. Cotton was brought to River Street directly from the fields; it was stored in the warehouses along River Street, the price for cotton was set for the entire world from the Cotton Exchange located on Bay Street and then it was sold and shipped around the world from the Port of Savannah.

Today the old cotton warehouses have been transformed into a premier shopping, dining and entertainment destination. Visitors and locals can enjoy a variety of fun events and festivals on River Street, or simply enjoy a stroll and scenic river views. River Street is also home several monuments: Savannah’s World War II Memorial, the African-American Monument, the Olympic Cauldron for the 1996 Yachting event and the Waving Girl Statue.

If you love fresh seafood and casual dining, be sure to visit The River House, located directly below the Cotton Sail Hotel, for delicious eats and fantastic river views.  Vic’s on the River is the perfect place for a romantic dinner in an elegant setting.  Save your sweet tooth for a stop at Savannah’s Candy Kitchen, where you can try the house made pralines or pick up other sugary treats.  The open air Market Place is a great spot to shop for unique souvenirs and gifts.
